Installation of New Escalators in Airport Terminals A & C Will Impact Passenger Movement Between Upper & Lower Levels

May 4, 2013

MEMPHIS, TN (May 16, 2013) – A $700,000 project to replace the escalators inside the Memphis International Airport’s Terminal A & C lobbies will alter normal passenger movement between the Ticketing level and Baggage Claim level for the next 3-1/2 months. The project will begin May 22 and should be completed by September 1, 2013.

Passengers and visitors will be directed by signs to use the new lobby elevators recently installed in those Terminals, or the staircases, to transit between those levels. Another option would be to use the escalators in Terminal B.
The existing escalators were installed when Terminal A & C opened nearly 40 years ago and have become difficult to repair. The new escalators will be more efficient and have modern safety features.
