The Airport Authority was an honoree in the Memphis Business Journal’s inaugural Building Memphis Awards program for its new Ground Transportation Center (GTC) which consolidated rental car operations and public economy parking into one functional and customer-centric facility adjacent to the passenger terminal.
Building Memphis is a broad commercial real estate recognition program designed to pay tribute to projects that have created a positive community impact in the areas of investment, new jobs, environmental leadership, renovation or revitalization.
The Airport’s new GTC transformed the front door of the City by presenting a dramatic and attractive new first impression for those entering the airport via ground transportation. It provides the traveling public the most convenient covered parking option at the lowest available cost.
The new facility also eliminated the need and expense of shuttle buses for the rental car companies and thus improves the environment significantly by reducing traffic exhaust, congestion & noise.
The Ground Transportation Center further enhances the Airport’s recognition as the centerpiece of Memphis: America’s Aerotropolis.
