Holiday Music at Memphis International

The Memphis Symphony Orchestra Ensembles will be performing in concourse B, near the Blue Note Café and also across from the food court at the rotunda on December 17 from 12:45 to 1:45 PM. This special holiday music event is sponsored by ETI Corporation. On Dec. 21, 22, and 23, from 11:30 AM until 2:00 PM, the Memphis Music Foundation will be sponsoring holiday musicians in the baggage claim B area, in concourse B, near the Blue Note Café and also in the concourse B rotunda. All of us at Memphis International know that travelling during the holidays can be stressful. We hope these music programs at the airport help replace some of the stress with holiday enjoyment.

East Economy Lot Now Open

The East Economy Parking Lot at Memphis International Airport is now open. The addition of these 1035 spaces in the East Lot, coupled with the 690 spaces in the West Economy Lot, will alleviate the loss of parking spaces while the existing 3-level parking structure directly in front of the terminal building is renovated. Renovation of that structure has begun and will take place with small quadrants of the structure being worked on at a time. Only those areas being worked on will be closed, with the rest of the parking structure remaining open during renovation.

Latest directions and maps of the parking availability at Memphis International can be found here on the Airport Web site.

Larry Cox Wins Prestigious
Robert R. Church Achievement Award

Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority president and CEO Larry Cox was named Model Diversity Corporation CEO of the Year at the 25th annual Robert R. Church Achievement Awards luncheon held in November.

The Church Awards are named for Robert R. Church Sr., the first African-American millionaire in the South whose business empire was headquartered in Memphis. Cox was chosen from among nine local major corporation CEOs that participated in a Memphis Minority Business Council pilot program focused on improving diversity and inclusion in all areas of the corporation with a focus on four pillar areas: supplier diversity, workforce diversity, community giving that impacts economic causes, and internal diversity. Cox was recognized for his success in the four pillar areas by having an increase of spending with minority businesses from $10 million in 2008 to more than $18 million in 2009, a steadily increasing number of minority employees, continuous giving toward causes that have significant economic impact on the community, and his commitment to and direct involvement with the Airport’s diversity program at every level.

FedEx Adds New Flight in Vietnam

In November, FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), launched a new flight to and from Hanoi four times a week (Tuesday to Friday). This new dedicated flight will improve the transit time for outbound shipments from Hanoi by one business day to multiple destinations, including China. This is part of the company’s commitment to launch service enhancements that enable FedEx to be more responsive to the needs of its customers in Vietnam and the Asia Pacific region.

“Vietnam has demonstrated strong growth over 2010. Export turnover in the first nine months rose 23.2% year-on-year,” said David L. Cunningham Jr., president, FedEx Express Asia Pacific. “The new service enhancement is another testament to FedEx efforts to provide time-definite and reliable services for customers in Vietnam, and to help them enhance their competitiveness across the Asia Pacific region.”…more »
