Terminal Building Improvements Scheduled to Begin in 2010

As part of the on-going commitment to improving the passenger experience at Memphis International Airport, $21 million in terminal building improvements are scheduled to begin this year. The Terminal “B” passenger security checkpoint will be expanded and redesigned to make room for new, enhanced, and larger scanning equipment for the Transportation Security Administration.

Some of the existing retail and food/beverage service concessions located near the Terminal “B” checkpoint will be relocated due to the redesign. Passengers also will be able to enjoy a new, more direct passenger route to Baggage Claim “B” that will allow passengers exiting the concourse to avoid the congestion in front of the Terminal “B” checkpoint. Additional queuing space in front of the checkpoint also should result from the redesign. Finally, aging mechanical and electrical equipment in the Terminal will be replaced. The improvements are expected to take one-to-two years to complete.
